Norton Rose Fulbright advises Suzano S.A. in US$800M ECA-backed financing

Lawyers from Norton Rose Fulbright's São Paulo office advised Suzano S.A. (Suzano) in its recent US$800 million credit facility arranged by HSBC which is guaranteed by the Finnish export credit agency, Finnvera. The facility, which will be provided by Finnish Export Credit (FEC), will be used to pay for equipment and services in connection with one of Brazil’s current largest private investments, Suzano’s Cerrado Project in the municipality of Ribas do Rio Pardo, State of Mato Grosso do Sul.

The Cerrado Project is expected to cost R$ 19.3 billion (approximately US$ 3.7 billion) and will include (i) an elemental chlorine free pulp mill with a capacity up to 2.55 million tons per year; (ii) a 2 km water intake pipeline; (iii) a 4 km treated effluent emissary pipeline; (iv) a 21 km 138 kV transmission line and substation; (v) a 6 km railway connecting the mill with the Rumo Malha Oeste railway; (vi) a 160 m long and 6 m wide bridge over the Pardo River and (vii) an 8.5 km long and 8 m wide access road connecting the bridge to the mill site.
